Globus Competence Centre for Globalization and Sustainable Development
Our primary activities at Globus lie in the twin domains of research and teaching, both of which are conducted at the international and national level.
Developing and Disseminating New Answers to Sustainability Challenges
By initiating innovative and collaborative research endeavours, Globus helps to develop new knowledge, perspectives, and solutions to sustainable development in a globalizing world. By staging world-class teaching events, Globus ensures these insights are shared with a broad audience of influential current and future societal leaders.
Globalization and the management of sustainable development encompass multiple policy issues and knowledge fields – and so do our activities. Globus research and teaching take a strongly multidisciplinary approach, pulling together the best and most relevant information and people from across a multitude of areas.
Innovative and Multidisciplinary – Globus Research
Globus’ central research programme is 'Governance of Sustainable Development in a Globalizing World'. Papers produced by this research group are published in both leading journals and as part of the Globus series.
World-Class – Globus Events & Programmes
Globus initiates and organises courses, conferences, symposia, and lectures for audiences ranging from undergraduate students to senior management executives and policy advisers. Subject matters are presented in various ways, from presentations and case study analyses to workshops, panels, and interactive sessions.
Upcoming programmes include:
- Colloquium Globalisering, by Professor Paul van Seters;
- Course by Professor Pieter Winsemius: Management van duurzame ontwikkeling;
Executive Seminar for Senior Officials
Every year, Globus collaborates with the Sustainability Challenge Foundation (SCF) to hold the International Programme on the Management of Sustainability (IPMS), a high-profile seven-day executive seminar for senior officials from the public, private and non-profit sectors that delivers the absolute latest strategies for meeting sustainability challenges.
Held in June of each year in The Netherlands, participants are coached in techniques for resolving the conflicts that arise in the process of implementing sustainable solutions, as well as the mutual gains approach to negotiation. Role-playing exercises, workshops, lectures and discussion groups ensure a highly-interactive and stimulating learning experience.
Regional Programmes
Together with Globus, the Sustainability Challenge Foundation also offers Regional Programmes (RPMS), a response to requests from former participants, foundation sponsors, and national and international organisations interested in improving their management of sustainable development.
Like the IPMS, the Regional Programmes provide participants with practical skills needed in building consensus among stakeholders with diverse economic, environmental and social interests, needs and values. In recent years, Regional Programmes have been held in Kenya, Indonesia, Moldova, Mozambique, Senegal, South Africa, and Turkey. Future Regional Programmes are being arranged in Abu Dhabi, Brazil, Central Africa and Suriname. For more information, please contact us.
