Centre for Governance of the Private Public-Sector Enterprise

The activities of CBMO include discussion platforms & conferences, research, and educational programmes. The Centre aims to build a bridge between science and practice and to provide insight into the relationship between the various multi-sectoral themes.
Annual John F. Kennedy Lecture
On June 6, 2012 the annual John F. Kennedy Lecture was given bij professor Mark Moore. He is a Hauser Professor of Nonprofit Organizations and Faculty Chair of the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations, aligned to the Harvard Kennedy School; Moreover he is a research fellowof CBMO. In his lecture, Prof. Mark Moore analyzed the nonprofit organizations’ important challenges in being a collaborator/catalyst/partner that tends to mobilize the capacities of organizations and citizens in the other domains, in order to sustain and create public value.
Platform for Interested People from Science and Practice
Professors and other employees, from both TiasNimbas and Tilburg University, may share an interest in the scientific debate about the specific problems concerning the government of the private public-sector enterprise. They specifically seek the dialogue with hands-on experts from the field. These discussions are of utmost importance for both the (academic) knowledge development and for (direct) application in practice. As the nature of the problems one encounters in practice are multi-sectoral, the approach will be accordingly. For the time being, we think of themes like strategy, innovation, governance, leadership and entrepreneurship. The Centre will organise and facilitate discussion through workshops, seminars and conferences.
Strategic and Applied Scientific Research
The above mentioned themes will be reflected in the multi-sectoral research programme. Based on this programme, the Centre conducts strategic and applied scientific research in sustainable cooperation with organisations from the field. The centre will supervise PhD students and support experienced administrators and managers who wish to gain more in-depth scientific knowledge.
Applicability of the conducted research is essential. Theoretical and conceptual scientific knowledge will be confronted with empirical research from practice. This is ensured by participation of various organisations from society in the Centre by exchange of employees, financing of academic chairs, PhD or post-doc positions, as well as by direct funding of research into a specific theme that an organistion is highly interested in.
Educational Programmes for Administration / Management of Private Public-Sector Enterprises
TiasNimbas already offers a range of programmes for experienced administrators and managers in the not-for-profit and public sectors. The strength of these management programmes is the application of modern management theories to the specific context of government and not-for-profit organisations.
Likewise, the Centre will develop state-of-the-art and tailor-made programmes for the private public-sector enterprise, based on the newly acquired knowledge and insights. These will be offered exclusively, under favourable conditions, to organisations and enterprises that participate in the Centre.
