Members of the TiasNimbas Leadership Development Centre are pushing the frontiers of knowledge in the ever-evolving area of leadership. To share the collective expertise with a wide audience, we will be publishing an ongoing series of books and articles written by our professors and lecturers.
Professionalising educational leaders in Secondary Education
What makes an educational leader into a proper educational leader? The VO-council has issued the Leadership Development Centre together with IVA policy research and advice to conduct a research project on this topic. This project is in relation to the professionalisation of education. The result is a frame of reference for high quality educational leadership that can be used as a basis for educational leaders to focus on further professionalisation. Read the complete report here.

Organisations have life cycles similar to those of living organisms. This concept offers us a framework to help understand and predict organisational dynamics, as well as the ability (or inability) of managers and HRM staffers to effectively intervene in these dynamics. The first of a series: “Leadership: fact and fiction”
We are pleased to announce our very first release, entitled “Leiderschap: feiten en fictie” [“Leadership: fact and fiction” in English] (Den Haag: Boom Lemma 2011) by Adjunct Professor Dr. Jo Caris.
There is no ‘ideal leader’
In “Leiderschap: feiten en fictie”, Dr. Jo Caris says that the ideal leader so much topical literature describes seems to be more like “a romantic hero in the movies than a real person who is effective in problem-solving.” The result of more than 30 years of experience spent at the intersection of research and organisational behaviour – and across such disciplines as sociology, psychology and neurology – Jo Caris’s latest book delivers insights and
conclusions leading to a new definition of ‘leadership’.
Interview
In the magazine "Management Boek", an interview with Dr. Jo Caris about his book (Dutch language) is published in February 2012.
