The greatest threat…may well be inside your firm”.
“Dialogue is an essential element in DSM’s business model for innovation”.
  • Professor Marius Meeus, Directeur van het Center for Innovation Research at Tilburg University zal spreken over de relatie tussen businessmodellen voor innovatie en het ‘ecosysteem’ van bedrijven. Hoewel bedrijven actief zijn op wereldmarkten, zijn hun innovatiemodellen meestal bepaald door hun locale omgeving(en) en hun interne managementpraktijken: “Innovation models are products of corporate history and management practice, markets are global”.

  • How Innovation Actually Helps You Make Money

Staying power – that’s the power of Research & Development (R&D) and innovation, and the way to outperform competitors across generations of technologies and customers. How does innovation actually help you make money? This requires a good business model, but which one is right for you? Sectors differ, also with regard to how to protect intellectual property. This talk will introduce you to various business models for R&D and innovation. What are your sector’s defining characteristics, and what does this demand of a business model? At the end of the day, you will be better able to assess whether your innovations are also actually making you money.

    • Professor Michael Cusumano is Sloan Management Review’s Distinguished Professor of Management at MIT's Sloan School of Management. He specialises in strategy, product development, and entrepreneurship in the IT sector, the automotive industry, and consumer electronics. One of his characteristic observations when it comes to innovation: ‘The greatest threat … may well be inside your firm.’
    • Other guest speakers from DSM and Tilburg University include Hein Schreuder, Executive Vice President for Corporates Strategy & Acquisitions at DSM, who will explain which business model for R&D and innovation his company uses. It’s a multifaceted story, because this company in particular has had to reinvent itself numerous times over the course of its more than 100-year history. ‘Dialogue is an essential element in DSM’s business model for innovation.’
    • Professor Marius Meeus, director of the Center for Innovation Research at Tilburg University, will talk about the relationship between business models for innovation and companies’ ‘ecosystems’. Although companies may operate on global markets, their innovation models are mainly the product of their local environments and management systems: ‘Innovation models are the product of corporate history and management practice, markets are global.’
