A Creative City

Present-day Tilburg (200,000 inhabitants, the sixth-largest city in The Netherlands) is a creative city with a thriving art scene and a bustling cultural life. 013 is a hotbed of new rock and pop talent. Paradox is a respected and influential international jazz podium. The Concertzaal offers classical music while the Stadsschouwburg is the stage for performing arts, also in English.

With three dance academies and companies, Tilburg is the unchallenged dance capital of the southern Netherlands. The museums house large collections and changing exhibitions. De Pont, museum for modern art, and the Textielmuseum, specializing in textile arts to honor the historical legacy of the city as a textile industry hub, both have sound international allure.

A Festive City

The city of Tilburg hosts many festivals such as Festival Mundial (two weeks of world music, global culture and activism), Stranger Than Paranoia (jazz and improvisation) and ZXZW (independent culture). In the traditional Maria Month of May close to 100,000 people come to attend processions, open-air masses and sing-along gatherings. The markets, parades and rides of the Tilburg Fun Fair in July attract over a million visitors year after year. It's the biggest fun fair in the Benelux countries. The fair's Pink Monday is the biggest gay-themed event in The Netherlands.

An Entrepreneurial City

Today, healthcare is Tilburg's biggest industry in terms of employment (19.3% of the labor population). Other important industries are trade, transportation, logistics, distribution, chemicals and metallurgy. Over the past two decades, Tilburg has attracted a cluster of creative, design, communication and other innovative service companies that continue to grow. Villa Media is a well-known cluster of multimedia enterprises, located in an old manor downtown. Due to the stunning natural surroundings, the hotel, restaurant and tourism industry is well-developed, and makes up a large  share of the local economy, far above the national average. Multinationals like Fuji Photo, Ericsson, Coca-Cola, Sony and Christian Salvesen have major operations and plants in Tilburg.

An Educational City

With three universities (Tilburg University, Fontys University and Avans University), Tilburg has a real student-town feel. Affordable eateries and cozy bars dot the town to serve the over 20.000 students in Tilburg (making up for 10% of the population).
