Biography

Biography
Professor Gert Nielen completed his studies in 1953 in theoretical statistics at Wageningen. After a period in the industry (always working near the possibilities and impossibilities of computer applications) he achieved his PhD with a thesis on information systems and management of enterprises.
In 1969 he was professor of information systems to Tilburg University, a position he held until his retirement in 1995. For a period of time he was also professor at both the Eindhoven University of Technology and the School of Engineering at Washington University, St. Louis USA.
Professor Nielen is also director of the Advisory Office Nielen, which gives advice about the possibilities and impossibilities of computer applications. His scientific interest focuses on the importance of data for humans, and the establishment of the information systems in organisations.
